1. Get key events on your calendar
To make sure your business stays front of mind for your customers, you need to take the time to map out key events and how you can use them to promote your business. Local chambers, professional meet-ups and seasonal holidays are a great place to start.
Key events provide opportunities for networking and business development. You need to really stand out from the crowd. 
2. Find a schedule that works for you
Planning ahead and committing to a schedule will help you focus and save you time in the long run. Selecting whole days or block periods where you will work on social media, business development or hitting the books will make being organised much easier! Providing consistency in your business is a good thing and starting these habits at the start of the year will help you keep these habits in the long run. 
3. Revise your business strategy
Now is the time to really understand where your business is, where you want it to go and how you’re going to get there. Whether it’s increasing profits by 10%, or getting 50 new clients a month, if you kick start the year with the right attitude, you’ll nail your goals by this time next year. 
4. Do some tax work
We all dread the end of the financial year but it inevitably comes around every July, so why not get a start on it now? If you’re already reviewing your business strategy take the time to sit down and evaluate your financial status, get paid for outstanding invoices and gather the last 6 months of tax data. It’ll save you time and money, when it’s time to go to the accountant.
5. Check your online presence
Got a website? Social media? Online listings? Check them! Do they need updating? Are your opening hours and contact information clearly displayed and correct? If you have a Facebook account, think about how you can use that to generate more business – things like ‘tag and share’ competitions are very successful!  With over 1.8 billion users worldwide, it’s the best platform to get your message out there.

Getting prepared in the new year will allow you to focus on growing your business and doing the things that you enjoy. Plus, it will help your brand grow and your business thrive.
